Exploring Our World Differently Resources

"What we find changes who we become."

– Peter Morville
EOWD is working to build a carefully researched collection of credible resources that can help individuals, caregivers, and families learn, understand their options, and make informed decisions for both immediate needs and long-term planning. We prioritize trustworthy government, scientific, educational, and community sources while recognizing that research, services, and professional understanding continue to evolve over time. Our goal is not to prescribe one path, but to make reliable information easier to find, understand, and use as each person and family navigates their own experiences, priorities, and possibilities.
Thank you for your patience as we carefully build this resource collection. We understand how overwhelming it can be to search through countless websites and determine which information is trustworthy. While every individual and family will still need to research their own needs, our goal is to make that process a little easier by pointing you toward credible starting places. This work takes time, and we appreciate your patience as we do the homework.

Why EOWD Includes Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resources
Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia differ fundamentally from lifelong neurodevelopmental differences such as autism. Yet when my mother began to fade from dementia, I recognized that many of the communication skills I had developed through more than 30 years of supporting my nonverbal autistic son also helped me connect with her. Patience, careful observation, respect for nonverbal communication, predictable routines, and a willingness to think beyond conventional approaches became invaluable as we navigated each new challenge. Supporting my son had taught me to listen differently and to look for the person beyond words, behaviors, and changing abilities. Those lessons helped our family care for my mother with greater understanding, respect, and dignity. For that reason, Alzheimer’s and dementia resources have a meaningful place within EOWD.
