Eowd Recipes: popcorn Seasoning

Dairy Free | Gluten Free
On our journey to better health and wellness, following a gluten and dairy free diet, popcorn quickly became one of our favorite go-to snacks. I have tried many ways of popping corn over the years, going from stove-top to air-poppers, and found that I love using our silicone microwave popcorn popper the best. The next challenge was to add a little flavor without using a lot (or any) butter or oil. I began looking online and found a few ideas. However, being someone who is slow to try new things, it took me a while before I finally took the plunge and purchased nutritional yeast for the first time. Wanting to give our popcorn just a bit more "kick" without unwanted additives and ingredients I could barely pronounce, I did a little experiementing and came up with this recipe that is ready to go for several months worth of popcorn treats.
**Our Household opts for organic and non-GMO ingredients whenever possible and, due to allergens and sensitivities, is on our journey to a gluten, dairy, and soy-free diet.
Equipment Needed
- Two-Blade Grinder (I use a Shardor Coffee Grinder Electric Herb/Wet Grinder for Spices and Seeds with 2 Removable Stainless Steel Bowls, Silver - Order yours on Amazon)
- Measuring Spoons (tablespoon & teaspoon)
- Funnel
- Small Silicone Spatula or Spoon
- Storage container (I upcycle, save, and re-use a standard glass spice shaker from a previously purchased spice)
- Face mask (optional)
- Apron (optional)
Ingredients
- 10 Tbsp Nutritional Yeast
- 1 level Tbsp Iodized Salt
- 2 level Tsp Paprika
- 1 level Tsp Garlic Powder
instructions
- Using your measuring spoons, add all of the ingredients to your two-blade grinder in order:
- 10 Tbsp Nutritional Yeast
- 1 Tbsp Iodized Salt
- 2 Tsp Paprika
- 1 Tsp Garlic Powder
- Secure the lid on the grinder
- Grind for approximately 90 seconds to two minutes, releasing about every 30 seconds until you have a fine, well-blended powder.
- Remove the cup from the grinder
- Palm the cup, fully covering and securing the lid to the cup
- Gently tap the bottom of the grinder cup on your kitchen counter
- Allow the ingredients to settle for a minute or two
- Some of the powder blend may become airborne when removing the lid. Consider wearing a mask to avoid accidentally inhaling some of this spicy powder.
- Gently remove the grinder lid
- Using a funnel and spatula or spoon, gently transfer the popcorn seasoning into its container
- Sprinkle and shake up to 1/2 a teaspoon into your freshly popped popcorn.
